Shockwave Therapy
What we do.
Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses acoustic waves (high-energy sound waves) to promote healing in tissues, reduce pain, and improve mobility. The therapy is commonly used for musculoskeletal conditions, particularly those involving tendons, ligaments, and joints.
Shockwave works by generating high-energy sound waves that are directed towards the area of injury or pain. These waves are delivered through a handheld applicator placed on the skin over the targeted area.
Effects on tissues: The shockwaves penetrate the skin and affect tissues in several ways:
Increased blood flow: It helps stimulate circulation and promotes healing in damaged tissues.
Collagen production: Shockwave therapy can encourage collagen formation, which helps in the repair of tendons and ligaments.
Pain and muscle spasm reduction: It has an analgesic effect, decreasing pain by desensitizing nerve endings and triggering the body’s natural pain-relieving mechanisms.
Cellular repair: The shockwaves can stimulate cellular regeneration and tissue repair.
Shockwave is an excellent option for chronic connective tissue conditions that have not responded to other modes of therapy. These include tennis elbow, plantar fasciitis, jumpers knee, and calcific tendinitis of the shoulder.
Shockwave therapy sessions typically last about 15-20 minutes, and depending on the condition, multiple sessions (ranging from 4 to 6) may be required. The treatment is generally well-tolerated, though some discomfort or a mild pain can occur during the procedure.
Overall, shockwave therapy is considered a safe and effective option for treating chronic pain and promoting healing in soft tissues without the need for surgery.
